ESP All About Us!

ESP hail from Stourbridge in the heart of the Black Country in the West Midlands, England - an area which in the past has given rise to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Electric Light Orchestra and The Wonderstuff, to name but a few !

The band were originally formed in late 1995 by Paul Maclean, Estelle Field, Jason Mead, Trevor Green, Angela Kiernan and Lee Goodyear. The following year saw them play many locals gigs, record their first demo, make appearances on local radio stations and culminated in ESP winning 3rd prize in a national 'Battle Of The Bands' competition out of 81 groups performing.

1997 saw ESP undergo several line-up changes, with the departure of Estelle and Trevor and the arrival of Jaq Pickett and Adrian Holmes - each one bringing with it a new strength to the band. Their debut album featuring 10 original compositions was released in August on Forged Records, a division of The Media Forge Network.

During 1998, the band played many live dates in support of the album. It also saw the departure of Lee Goodyear and Angie Kiernan. Angie being replaced by Sarah Taylor, but ESP decided to continue as a five piece and not to replace Lee. They also wrote and rehearsed new material for a planned second release. Some of the new songs have already been included in the band's live set - 'The Gun', 'Isolation', 'The Simple Things' and 'Bob - (Save Me)'. They hope to start recording for the second album sometime during 1999.

Now, in 1999, ESP are heading towards the new millennium with an exiting new line-up. The addition of Joe Isherwood and Kevin Lewis, after the departure of Adrian and Sarah Taylor has given the band a slightly new direction. Whilst retaining their rock music roots the band are developing a new and exciting sound with a whole new live show to match. This truly is ESP - The Next Generation.

ESP's music is not easy to describe or categorise. It would be wrong to class it as progressive, rock, pop, indie, etc. yet it has elements of all those styles within it.

Likewise, it would be wrong to say they sound like x,y or z ... because they don't ! Their music has a very unique sound. The band simply concentrates on writing the best songs they can and performing them to the highest possible standards.

Some of the band's many and varied influences include Marillion, Sting, Alanis Morissette, Genesis, The Cranberries, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Metallica, Frank Zappa, etc... the list is endless. It is simpler to say that if you enjoy good music, give ESP at listen ! You won't be disappointed !
